Ricardo softside luggage offers flexibility that hardside shells can't match — they can compress slightly to fit tighter overhead bins, weigh less overall, and feature exterior pockets for quick access to passports, headphones, and travel essentials. The Avalon rPET collection is our most sustainable line, made from GRS-certified recycled plastic bottles. The Montecito 3.0 Softside also uses an rPET blend fabric. Both collections are lightweight, TSA-lock equipped, and recognized for their sustainable design — Avalon received the 2025 Travel Sentry® Sustainability Award.
Both are made from rPET recycled fabric, but they serve slightly different travelers. The Avalon rPET is our most fully sustainable line — GRS-certified, ultra-lightweight, and available in carry-on and checked sizes. The Montecito 3.0 Softside leans into organization and everyday functionality, with a Device Tracker Pocket and a broader size range from under-seat to large check-in.
Most Ricardo softside bags include a built-in TSA-recognized combination lock. However, Malibu Bay 3.0 and Rodeo Drive 2.0 Softside do not include a built-in TSA lock. Always check individual product pages to confirm — and if your bag doesn't include one, a separate TSA-approved padlock works just as well.
For 2–4 day trips, we recommend a softside carry-on — the Montecito 3.0 Softside Carry-On and Avalon rPET Carry-On are both lightweight, TSA-lock equipped, and sized to fit standard domestic overhead bins. For a compact personal item upgrade, the Montecito 3.0 Small and Avalon Small slip under most airline seats.
