Luggage & Bags FAQ
Your Questions, Answered
Hardside luggage uses a rigid polycarbonate or polycarbonate-alloy shell that protects your belongings from impact and is easy to wipe clean. Ricardo hardside collections like Rodeo Drive 2.0, Brentwood, Montecito 2.0, Cambria, and Melrose are built from premium polycarbonate that flexes on impact rather than cracking. Softside luggage uses flexible fabric — nylon, polyester, or rPET — that can compress slightly to fit in tight overhead bins and typically weighs less. Ricardo softside collections like Avalon rPET, Montecito 3.0, and Malibu Bay 3.0 offer more versatility for overpacking. Not sure which is right for you? Our Hard vs. Soft Guide breaks it down in full.
All Ricardo Beverly Hills luggage and bags are backed by a 10-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. The one exception is the Flight Essentials collection, which carries a 3-year commercial warranty reflecting the demands of daily professional aviation use. Damage caused by airlines, misuse, or normal wear and tear is not covered, but our service team can help facilitate repairs. Register your bag at ricardo.registria.com and visit our Warranty page for full terms.
The Avalon rPET collection and the Montecito 3.0 Softside collection are both constructed from GRS-certified recycled polyester (rPET) made from post-consumer plastic bottles. The Avalon collection received the 2025 Travel Sentry® Award for its sustainable design. If sustainability is a priority, both collections are excellent choices for carry-on, checked, and bag styles. Learn more on our Sustainability page.
Ricardo offers luggage across every size category. Under-seat and small carry-ons (typically 16″–19″) fit beneath the seat in front of you as a personal item. Standard carry-ons (20″–22″) are designed to fit in the overhead bin on most domestic U.S. flights. Medium check-in bags (24″–25″) are ideal for trips of 4–7 days, while large check-in bags (28″–29″) work best for extended travel or family trips. Use our Size & Weight Guide to find the right size for your trip, or our Airline Compliance Checker to confirm carry-on dimensions for your specific airline.
Most Ricardo hardside and select softside luggage styles include a built-in TSA-approved combination lock. Collections with TSA locks include Avalon rPET, Brentwood, Cambria, Jacinto Peak, Melrose, Montecito 2.0, Montecito 3.0, and Rodeo Drive 2.0 Hardside. Collections without built-in TSA locks include Claremont 2.0, Hermosa, Indio, Laguna, Malibu Bay 3.0, Oceano, Rialto, and Rodeo Drive 2.0 Softside. TSA agents can open bags with built-in locks using a universal master key — without cutting or damaging your lock. For combination reset instructions, visit our TSA Lock Instructions page.
FastAccess™ is Ricardo’s front-opening panel system featured on select Brentwood and Montecito 2.0 carry-ons. It lets you unzip a dedicated front compartment and access your laptop, tablet, or personal items without opening the main body of the bag — no need to remove it from the overhead bin or lay it flat. It’s designed for frequent flyers who want faster airport security screenings and easier in-flight access. FastAccess styles include the Brentwood Hardside FastAccess Carry-On, the Brentwood 3-Piece Set with FastAccess Carry-On, and the Montecito 2.0 FastAccess Hardside Carry-On.
USB-A charging ports are available on select styles from the Montecito 2.0, Rodeo Drive 2.0 Hardside, Laguna, and Malibu Bay 3.0 collections. The port is located on the exterior of the bag — place a portable power bank (not included) inside, connect it to the internal cable, and charge your devices on the go without opening your bag. The USB port is for charging only and does not connect to any built-in battery in the bag.
The Flight Essentials collection was developed in collaboration with aviation professionals and is trusted by over 220,000 crew members worldwide. Every bag is built from 1680D ballistic nylon with YKK® EYL zippers rated for thousands of open-and-close cycles, and dimensions are FAA-compliant. The line includes boarding bags, a wheel-a-board, a deluxe backpack, a layover tote, and a small insulated cooler. A 3-year commercial warranty applies in place of the standard 10-year warranty, reflecting the demands of daily professional use. While purpose-built for crew, the collection is equally well-suited for frequent travelers who want serious durability.
Yes. Ricardo offers replacement parts — including wheels, handles, and zippers — for most active collections. You can order parts directly or locate an authorized service center near you via our Service & Repairs page. If the issue qualifies under the 10-year warranty, the repair or replacement may be covered at no charge. We recommend registering your product at ricardo.registria.com to streamline any future service requests.
Yes — Ricardo offers coordinated 2-piece and 3-piece luggage sets across most major collections, including hardside sets from Brentwood, Cambria, Melrose, Montecito 2.0, and Rodeo Drive 2.0, and softside sets from Avalon rPET, Malibu Bay 3.0, and Montecito 3.0. Each set pairs a carry-on with one or two checked pieces in a perfectly matched style. Sets offer better value than buying individual pieces separately, and every set is covered by the same 10-year warranty.
